Recognizing the best in music, film, sports and fashion, Univision's Premio Juventud has just unveiled its 2010 list of nominees. In its seventh edition, the biggest surprise came via ex-RBD member Anahi sweeping the nominations with a total of nine, including the nominations as Pop Artist of the Year and Idol of the Year. This comes as a surprise to many people as her album 'Mi Delirio' had been considered a commercial failure and received lukewarm critical acclaim. However, it makes sense considering Premios Juventud is the only major award where fans are in total control of the process, from choosing the nominees to deciding the winners. Anahi clearly transferred much of RBD's followers to her solo career.
Also earning nine mentions are Dominican-American Bachata sensation Aventura and Puerto Rican singer Chayanne. Some artists like Thalia and Ricky Martin grabbed unexpected nominations, while other artists such as Tito El Bambino and Daddy Yankee had very few mentions considering the amount of success both reggaeton artists earned last year.
Other Latino personalities earning multiple awards include Telenovela star William Levy, Regional Mexican singer-songwriter Espinoza Paz and actor Gael Garcia Bernal. Premios Juventud is an award show directed to young Latinos in the United States, for which the event also awards scholarships to outstanding students aspiring to attend college. The celebration will be broadcast live by Univision at Miami's Bank United Center on Thursday July 15.
